The Monastir Del Camp is an ancient monastery which, according to legend, was built at the end of the 8th or beginning of the 9th century at the request of Charlemagne in Passa near Thuir.
All too little known, it is one of the jewels of Catalan Romanesque art. Historically, the Monastir Del Camp priory was home to the community of Canons of Saint Augustine around 1116. The priory later became a Benedictine monastery. After the departure of the community of Canons of Saint Augustine, the priory was sold by Louis XVI to the Jaubert de Passa family. At the end of the French Revolution, the priory's inhabitants fled to Spain and the monastery was converted into a hospital. In 1826, Prosper Mérimée, then minister, classified the site as a Historic Monument.
