On a stormy night, four women meet in the castle of the Duchess of Vaubricourt. Don Juan, who has scorned them in the past, will be put on trial and will have to make amends by marrying Angelique, the Duchess's goddaughter. To everyone's surprise, the legendary seducer accepts! Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt revisits the famous myth of Don Juan. Taking old traits borrowed from other authors, in particular Molière, he presents a process of rewriting and projects his hero into a new situation that reflects a modern quest for spirituality. It will be interesting to study the argumentation in the trial scenes in this play, as well as the dramaturgical means the author uses to bring out new meanings.
