Castle of Castelnou

Located 20 minutes from Perpignan, the castle of Castelnou is a symbol of medieval times in Roussillon.

The history of Castelnou castle dates back to the 10th century. Occupied, coveted and abandoned on several occasions, it has witnessed a glorious Catalan past and remains the oldest example of a medieval fortress in Roussillon.

It was finally transformed in the 19th century into a seaside resort and today retains the traces of its former owners.

Acquired in 2018 by the Department, it is the subject of a vast renovation project which will capitalize on its exceptional tourist potential and offer it a new future.
