EGLISE DE BANYULS DELS ASPRES

FR
The first mention of the village is made through that of its church in 1020, dedicated to St Cucufat. This church still exists today, although very damaged. It was renamed St Marc in the 15th century when it was abandoned in favour of another church which took its place in the name of St Jacques and St Cugat. It is of course a Romanesque chapel, with a rectangular apse, classified as a historical monument. It has only one nave, as it was most of the time at that time. The semicircular vault probably replaced a wooden frame. This church, prior to the year 1000, has on its triumphal arch a stone engraved with an Alpha and Omega surrounding a cross.
