The THUIR basketball club was founded in the 1960s. The "Founding Fathers" of the association were Gilbert PROUDHON, Jean AUSSEIL, Raymond ROCCI and Fernand AUXACH. The municipal gymnasium was inaugurated on 13 October 1968. From that day until the early 90s, the MJC Basket Club, as it was known at the time, trained here. When the Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture was disbanded, the club was renamed the "Basket Club Thuirinois". Today, the club has 90 members of all ages, including around thirty children. A new team and new motivation are likely to see the Thuirinois Basket Club bounce back beyond the baskets.
